Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health Training and Consulting Specialist-Hybrid in Villanova, Pennsylvania

Description

The Center for Effective Schools seeks applicants for a full-time (12 month) Training and Consulting Specialist position. Responsibilities include developing and delivering training, consulting, and technical assistance to school districts and educational professionals in the areas of school-wide positive behavioral interventions and supports, social and academic skill development, and social emotional and behavioral wellness; consulting with teachers, counselors, principals, and school psychologists on issues of instruction, class wide management, functional assessment, and behavior support planning; and participating in the planning and implementation of applied research to improve training and consultative interactions.

Location: Devereux Center for Effective Schools is located in Villanova, Pennsylvania (outside of Philadelphia). Training and Consulting specialists work from home and travel to various sites within Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware. Mileage reimbursement is provided.

The mission of the Center for Effective Schools (CES) is to build capacity in schools for serving children with, or at-risk for developing, emotional and behavioral disorders. This mission is accomplished through training, consultation, new model program development, and applied research. The CES subscribes to a multi-tiered (universal, secondary, and tertiary) prevention and intervention approach to service delivery. Populations served through CES include, but are not limited to, students and staff within early childhood, primary, and secondary public schools and districts; families and caregivers; pre-referral intervention teams; intermediate units; approved private day schools and residential programs; and other non-profit organizations focused on education and violence prevention. Services include training and technical assistance for school-wide positive behavioral interventions and supports, social-emotional and behavior wellness, class-wide positive behavior supports for general and special education settings, response-to-intervention, as well as individual student services including functional behavioral assessment and positive behavior support plans, and general academic and behavioral assessment to generate empirically based behavior and academic support plans. CES staff members pride themselves on being consumer-driven by developing programs that are tailored to meet the needs of the individual, schools, and districts they serve.

The Training & Consulting Specialist essential functions and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Training Development and Delivery:Participates in the development of training programs, under the direction of supervisor. Implements training using an active training style. Evaluates learner outcomes and acceptability.

  • Assessment, Analysis, and Research:Conducts assessments of school/classroom climate and individual student behavior. Employs a behavioral approach to assessment. Accurately analyzes data. Uses data to inform intervention. Uses data to consult with others involved in intervention at the individual or systems level. Independently carries out research protocols under the direction of supervisor.

  • Consultation and Intervention:Consistently employs a behavioral consultation model to address issues of individual student and school-wide climate concerns. Effectively employs data-based decision-making practices. Effectively consults with school-based leadership teams to improve school climate and student behavior. Communicates effectively to resolve problems. Always acts in the best interest of the consumer.

  • Dissemination of Professional Work: Presents results of work at national and regional conferences. Participates in writing professional articles with senior staff to promote the work of the Center. Participates in grant and contract development, under the direction of supervisor, to fund the activities of the Center.

Qualifications

To qualify, the Training & Consulting Specialist will have:

  • Education:Master’s Degree in school psychology, general or special education, or related field;BCBA or BCBA eligible preferred.

  • Experience:Three to five years of experience in a school setting. Experience providing behavioral and/or systems level consultation / coaching. Experience presenting to and training others.

  • Qualities:Ability to work in a team environment. Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Excellent time management and writing skills.
