Devereux staff will work at the Mount View Youth Services Center (MVYSC) located at 7862 West Mansfield Parkway in Lakewood, CO. MVYSC is a secure, co-ed multi-purpose facility operated by the CDHS Division of Youth Services (DYS). The strategic goal of DYS is to operate healthy trauma-responsive organizational environments as demonstrated through prosocial, safe, and non-violent interactions. Devereux staff will be integrated into the environment and work collaboratively to build and maintain safe and trauma responsive environments.

Perform assigned duties as lead worker. Coach, teach and mentor YSS staff. Role model adherence to DYS Policy and Facility. Provide shift briefing and communication of pertinent information as it relates to youth and building needs, living unit areas, special status youth, high-risk youth, behavioral contracts, and safety plans. Exercise verbal de-escalation when needed to assist youth in maintaining emotional or behavioral stability. Determine rule infractions by youth and place youth on Suicide Precaution Monitoring (SPM) or seclusion to preserve safety. Provide documentation of all youth movement, needs, concerns, crisis interventions, and juvenile status and review all necessary documentation to ensure adherence to DYS policy, facility implementing procedures, and audit standards. Determine effective communication and behaviors to contribute to a positive environment in the facility. Ensure staff are in attendance and participating in training. Develop, coach, and mentor youth within the behavior management program and role model pro-social behavior. Integrate restorative justice principles and trauma informed philosophies in programming. Reinforce use of safe practices including methods of supervision and structure that maintain a non-violent milieu. Supervise groups of youth in daily structured programming to include structured recreation, leisure activities, and educational services. Support use of safety and self-care plans. Use non-escalation and de-escalation and in emergencies, use approved physical response techniques when all other interventions have failed. Conduct searches of individuals and rooms for contraband items and inspect the safety of doors, windows, and grounds. Utilize computer software to document incident reports and other activities when required. Direct care supervision to youth and establishment of milieu supervision in order to ensure the safety and wellbeing of both youth and staff; crisis intervention; behavior management; monitoring of youth; participation in treatment planning; participation in unit-based meetings. All of the above duties are expected to occur in coordination with the multidisciplinary.



-Bachelor’s degree in social work, sociology, criminal justice, behavioral health, psychology, therapeutic recreation or like degree required.

-Experience working with adjudicated and/or detained youth within a secure residential facility, correctional facility and/or a behavioral health setting.

-Experience working with adolescents who have trauma highly desired.
