DIRECT SUPPORT PROFESSIONAL

Being a Direct Support Professional means assisting individuals by:

  • Assisting the clients in your care with their individualized plans for daily life.

  • Ensuring individuals are safe, healthy, and living in a clean environment.

  • Participating in the planning, implementation, and documentation of programs designed to meet the social, emotional, physical, and personal needs of the client.

  • Coordinating group outings for clients.

  • Shopping for the home’s necessities, such as food, clothing, and household items.

  • Scheduling and driving clients to doctor’s appointments, shopping trips, and day programs/schools.


Shifts are as follows: 7-3pm or 2-10pm and 10pm-8am. Required to work a minimum of 24 hours a month and no more than 24 hours in a week.

Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health PA Children’s IDD Services, located in West Chester, Pennsylvania, provides a variety of assessment, treatment, and educational services to male and female children and adolescents (6-21 years of age) with diagnoses of intellectual disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, and concomitant psychiatric and behavioral challenges. Services are provided in residential programs, specialized treatment foster care homes, an approved private school, and an Autism Assessment Center. Assessment and interventions are based on best practice standards for the clinical populations served. Research, quality improvement, and training activities at the CIDDS are also supported by our national Institute of Clinical and Professional Training and Research in Villanova, Pennsylvania. The overarching goal of Devereux CIDDS is to provide services to support the development of necessary skills so that each referred individual can maximize his/her potential and live as productive, socially connected, and personally fulfilled member of his or her community.

High School Diploma or GED required

Experience working with children with special needs preferred.

Be empathetic, a team player, have excellent written and verbal communication skills, energetic, creative, understand the theories of behavior management and positive reinforcement, and represent yourself as a positive role model. Additionally, you must be able to complete required new hire orientation class, have a strong passion for working with and helping children and adolescents with special needs and possess a valid license.**

Physical Requirements:

Significant amounts of walking, sitting, and standing. Some lifting and/or managing resistance required related to applying physical intervention techniques upwards of 75-100 lbs. or more. Some repetitive wrist/hand movements, normal hearing and vision. Occasional use of computers and office equipment. Occasional driving of Devereux vehicles for business purposes. Ability to meet 100% mastery of Safe and Positive Approaches.**

Work Environment:

Regularly works inside areas that are adequately lighted and ventilated. Some fluctuations in temperature. Use of Protective equipment such as latex gloves, facial mask protective eyewear, and gown. Possible exposure to blood-borne pathogens. Some degree of physical involvement in exercise of Safe and Positive Approaches.**
