In response to the humanitarian crisis at America’s ports of entry, Devereux provides short-term shelter care services for unaccompanied children who have come to the United States without a parent or legal guardian. Devereux provides extremely high-quality, trauma-informed residential and educational services for unaccompanied children, with intense supports for their social and emotional health. We also ensure they receive excellent and immediate physical healthcare including pediatric, dental and nutritional supports for every child.
Devereux’s ultimate goal is to ensure every unaccompanied child who receives our services is successfully and quickly discharged into the loving care of their family sponsor and, during the short time they are with us, have received best-in-class medical, therapeutic, recreational and educational services designed specifically to address the traumas they have sustained during, and often before, their migration journey. This is a very high benchmark to set, but Devereux has partnered with leading immigration rights advocates and legal defense nonprofits to ensure children in our care have access to the finest legal supports offered by our country.
Being a Youth Care Professional working Overnight Shift has many advantages
As aYouth Care Professional– Overnight at Devereux, you will be a critical part of a multi-disciplinary team of dedicated experts who share your passion for helping children in need. Actively assist children with their individualized plans for daily living
Ensure our individuals are safe, healthy, and living in a clean, compassionate and therapeutic environment
Assist with the planning, implementation, and documentation of programs designed to meet children’s social, emotional, physical and personal needs
Plan and participate in community outings
Shop for necessities such as food, clothing and household items
Schedule and transport children to doctor’s appointments and other important activities
Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health CT provides programs and services for children, and adolescents. Bilingual Youth Care professionals staff the Short-term Shelter program 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The primary responsibility for this position is to maintain a nurturing environment within the program that is conducive to healthy and therapeutic emotional healing and growth of children who have experienced trauma. This full-time position reports to the Shift Supervisor. Twenty percent of the children will need long-distance transport (36 hours average), and twenty percent of the children will need transport for legal needs (average 4 hours) and dental/specialty medical (average 4 hours).

The IDEAL candidate will...
Be 21 years of age or older (required)
Have a minimum of a High School diploma with 2 years of relevant experience or preferably a Bachelors degree with relevant experience
Have a valid driver's license
Be empathetic and have a team approach to care for our individuals
Have excellent written and verbal communication skills
Be energetic, creative, and have a sense of humor
Be able to attend ten days of in-house orientation on weekdays
Be able to lift up to 50+ pounds and perform Safe and Positive Approaches
Devereux requires all individuals interviewing for a position involving contact with children to complete The Diana Screen, a screening that assesses a candidate’s understanding of appropriate boundaries between adults and children.
