Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health New York provides programs and services for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorder, and dual diagnoses. Located in Red Hook, NY, this position is responsible for implementing structured library/technology education program for developmentally disabled students and maintains the school library and student technology. The Library Teacher will evaluate literacy skills and learning disabilities by screening and testing all residents upon intake and/or staff referral in assigned unit. They will instruct assigned students (individually or in groups) in library and media skills necessary for development. In addition, they will evaluate students' levels of performance and communicate this information to the regularly scheduled teacher. The Library Teacher will maintain a classroom environment conducive to maximum academic and social learning by maintaining order and guiding students to socially appropriate behavior.

Education: New York State Professional or Initial Certification as a Library Media Specialist. BA/BS required. Individual must possess or be working toward M.A. degree.
Experience: One year experience working with individuals with I/DD is preferred.
Devereux requires all individuals interviewing for a position involving contact with children to complete The Diana Screen, a screening that assesses a candidate’s understanding of appropriate boundaries between adults and children.
