Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health Mental Health Technician Supervisor in Malvern, Pennsylvania

Devereux's Children's Behavioral Health Center (DCBHC), located in Malvern, PA is seeking A Full-Time, 2nd shift Mental Health Technician Supervisor. DCBHC is an acute, inpatient hospital specializing in the stabilization and tretment of children and adolescents in psychiatric crisis.

A Shift Supervisor performs patient care activities/services for assigned patients; assists in maintaining a safe and therapeutic treatment environment that meets the physical, emotional, and personal needs of patients. Under the direction of the Operations Manager, provides leadership, guidance and support to the assigned unit and serves in a mentoring role for Mental Health Technicians.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Provides direct care services in accordance with program schedule and individualized treatment plan.Follows program schedules ,

effectively transitions clients, introduces & provides rationale for activities; gives clear instructions and ensures participation of all patients.

  1. Applies approved behavior management techniques designed to encourage appropriate social behavior.Serves as a positive role model by providing an example for acceptable behavior, language, and dress.Effectively utilizing level system and/or individualized treatment strategies for patients.

  2. Assists in the provision of a safe and therapeutic treatment environment according to established policies and procedures. Utilizes appropriate and approved therapeutic interaction skills with patients (e.g., New Directions techniques in areas to include praise, making requests, warnings, and facilitating transitions).

  3. Utilizes crisis physical intervention techniques and seclusion and restraint training appropriate to the degree of threat to the safety of the patient and others and in accordance with Devereux’s Safe & Positive Approaches (SPA) Intervention standards.

  4. Observes and reports in a timely manner noticeable changes in patient behaviors to the Nurse Manager and/or designated treatment team member.

  5. Provides direct supervision of assigned patients during on and off unit programming. Takes responsibility for the whereabouts, safety and general welfare of assigned patients at all times.

  6. Provides accurate, timely, and consistent documentation of patient behaviors in the appropriate record.

  7. Participates in the orientation of new employees by serving in a mentoring role as well as familiarizing new employees with policies, procedures and common practices.

  8. Provides leadership, support and guidance to Mental Health Technicians on assigned unit.

Requirements

Education & Experience:

Bachelors degree from an accredited college with at least twelve credits hours in a human services discipline to include but not limited to psychology, sociology, social work, education, pastoral counseling, political science, heath, recreation, criminal justice, counseling; and a minimum of one year direct care experience; OR 60 college credits from an accredited college with at least twelve credit hours in a human services discipline (as described above), and three years direct care experience.**

Physical Requirements:

Significant amounts of walking, sitting, and standing. Some lifting and/or managing resistance required related to applying physical intervention techniques – upwards of 75-100 lbs. or more. Some repetitive wrist/hand movements, normal hearing and vision. Occasional use of computers and office equipment. Occasional driving of Devereux vehicles for business purposes. Ability to meet 100% mastery of Safe and Positive Approaches (SPA) techniques.**

Work Environment:

Regularly works outdoors and inside areas that are adequately lighted and ventilated. Some fluctuations in temperature. Protective equipment – latex gloves, facial mask protective eyewear, gown. Possible exposure to blood-borne pathogens. Physical involvement in exercise of SPA techniques (when required).**
