The Lead Direct Support Professional has two main aspects of their role:
The Lead Direct Support Profession provides individual or group adult client care worked in shifts, Sunday through Saturday, 24 hours a day, unless in a vocational or school setting which is traditionally Monday through Friday during day hours. The Lead Direct Support Professional (LDSP) assists in the planning, implementation of recreational, social, occupational and other developmental programs for consumers in the care of Devereux New Jersey. The Lead Direct Support Professional supervises and counsels consumers during free time and planned activities. LDSP's may work in a residential group home in a community setting, vocational day program, school setting, residential treatment center, or provide support to individuals and families in a private home. The person in this role primarily works with adults that are developmentally disabled or dually diagnosed with a mental illness. The Lead Direct Support Professional also plays a key role in developing and maintaining positive and productive relationships with the family members of those in our care to ensure the individual thrives under the care we provide.
The Lead Direct Support Professional assumes oversight of the program they are assigned to for the shift they work in the absence of the Program Supervisor. When the supervisor is not present in the program for any reason, the LDSP is accountable for the performance of the staff on shift and responsible for the deliverance of care to the individuals in the program. There may be more than one LDSP assigned to a program to ensure proper oversight of the program at all times.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE :
High School, or GED required, Associates Degree or above preferred
2-3 years Direct support experience in the DDD field required
