Individuals with emotional, behavioral, and developmental disabilities are served via a broad spectrum of treatment settings including community-based homes and apartments, vocational training programs, family care homes, and consulting services.

Devereux NJ is looking to hire an Employment Training Specialist for our Newton, NJ Vocational Program.

As a Employment Training Specialist you will inspire hope and empower lives by:

  • Providing ongoing job assessment, career development, skill training, and individualized planning & support to Individuals with intellectual/development disabilities and/or mental health diagnoses in obtaining, maintaining, and enhancing community-based employment.

  • Assisting in assessing Individuals' interests and skills for appropriate job placement.

  • Actively seeking community contacts and partners for developing community-based employment opportunities. These services will be delivered in such a manner that they attend to quality issues, (data collection, trend analysis, outcomes, corrective actions), the implementation of Best Practices, and innovative methods of treatment and treatment delivery.

  • Facilitating training for natural community-based support.

  • Assisting in developing and creating compensatory strategies for success amid any necessary accommodations.

  • Developing employment goals appropriate to Individuals' skill level - designed to maximize employment capabilities.

  • Participating in the development of assigned Individuals' Annual Support Plan.

  • Planning and implementing a program of job training and work experiences designed to develop Individuals' vocational skills, positive work habits, and interpersonal skills.

  • Maintaining records of daily attendance, hours worked, billable hours and Individuals' productivity.

Qualifications

The IDEAL candidate will ...

  • Be 21 years of age or older (required)

  • Have a Valid Driver’s License

  • Have a Associates degree or higher in Human Services or related field and one (1) year of experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities in an education/vocational setting

  • Have a High School Diploma and three (3) years of experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities in an education/vocational setting

  • Be empathetic and have a team approach to care for the consumers

  • Have excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Be energetic, creative, and have a sense of humor

  • Be able to attend ten days of paid in-house orientation on weekdays

  • Be able to lift up to 50+ pounds and perform Safe and Positive Approaches

  • Have a high level of comfort with hands on hygiene care (including diapering and showering)
