The Devereux CARES (Center for Autism Research and Education Services) School in Fitchburg, MA is a small private special education school that supports students ages 8- 22 with Autism Spectrum Disorders, developmental disabilities, dual diagnoses, and social skills deficits. Our primary goal is to teach functional and pro-social skills that can be easily generalized to the student’s community and home. There is a strong emphasis on functional communication and skill acquisition using Applied Behavior Analysis and Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support. At The CARES School, students learn academic, social, daily living, independent living skills, as well as community and vocational skill development.

Our classroom structure is designed to match students’ needs. Through an interdisciplinary approach, an individual plan is designed for each student. Our school is prepared to meet the academic requirements of local educational agencies, as well other states where our clients are from. Our curriculum is aligned with the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and coordinated through a collaborative working relationship with referring school districts. Flexibility in academic programming and creativity to meet students’ needs is the strength of our organization.

Qualifications

Job Requirements

• Must be 21 years of age or older

• Driver’s license is required

• Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) or High-school diploma with relevant human services experience required. Academic studies in the areas of psychology, sociology, social work, and education are highly desirable.

• Previous experience preferred (not required) working with individuals under 21 with psychological, emotional and behavioral disorders, complex post-traumatic stress disorder, co-occurring mental health and substance abuse disorders, and/or autism spectrum disorders.

• Orientation: 2 weeks Monday - Friday, 8AM - 4PM

• Day Shift, M-F 9-3

• Diana Screening Assessment

Devereux requires all individuals interviewing for a position involving contact with children to complete The Diana Screen, a screening that assesses a candidate’s understanding of appropriate boundaries between adults and children.
