Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health Residential Counselor - 3p-11p in Paxton, Massachusetts

As a Residential Counselor you will assist in the planning and implementation of group home services for assigned clients. Responsible for the safety and security of all clients in assigned group homes. You will also provide therapeutic interventions as necessary.

Responsibilities may include managing chores & room care, meals, medication administration, recreation activities, facilitating peer interactions & socialization, working on their treatment goals, and providing transportation for clients, families, or others as assigned.

The Devereux STARR (Short Term Assessment and Rapid Reintegration) program is located in Paxton, MA. This program provides short-term placement services for latency age (ages 6-12) male and/or female youth requiring immediate or emergency stabilization services, as well as youth presenting with more intensive service needs. This program offers stabilization services in a structured, predictable and well-supervised milieu. The primary focus is on identifying and treating safety/risk factors, barrier behaviors, and factors that precipitated placement.

You will add value by :

  • Maintaining a safe and therapeutic treatment environment that meets the physical, emotional, and personal needs of program clients while improving functioning and minimizing interfering behaviors.

  • Providing client documentation to include shift reports, incident reports, and individual progress notes.

  • Facilitating proper medical care including medication administration for clients.

  • Assisting clients in daily living activities including health & personal management, achieving personal goals, recreation, and daily household living.

Requirements

Job Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED. Bachelor's degree in Human Services, Psychology, Social Work, or Special Education preferred.

  • Previous experience preferred (not required) working with individuals under 21 with psychological, emotional and behavioral disorders, complex post-traumatic stress disorder, co-occurring mental health and substance abuse disorders, and/or autism spectrum disorders.

  • Active driver’s license is required.

Physical Requirements:

Significant amounts of walking, sitting, and standing. Some lifting and/or managing resistance required related to applying physical intervention techniques upwards of 75-100 lbs. or more. Some repetitive wrist/hand movements, normal hearing and vision. Occasional use of computers and office equipment. Occasional driving of Devereux vehicles for business purposes. Ability to meet 100% mastery of Safe and Positive Approaches.**

Work Environment:

Regularly works inside areas that are adequately lighted and ventilated. Some fluctuations in temperature. Use of Protective equipment such as latex gloves, facial mask protective eyewear, and gown. Possible exposure to blood-borne pathogens. Some degree of physical involvement in exercise of Safe and Positive Approaches.**
