Supported Living Program is currently hiring Personal Attendants. We are seeking caring, patient and creative people to work as personal attendants providing support to individuals living in their own homes during the weekdays and weekends. The Personal Attendant is responsible for providing the level of support needed for the individual to live successfully in their own home. These are part time positions.
Available shifts are mostly evenings and weekend. Working a minimum of 1 weekend shift (Saturday or Sunday) is required in order to be considered for this position.
As a Personal Attendant you will be responsible for:
-Assisting and teaching individuals to learn and perform necessary daily living skills (cooking, cleaning, laundry, paying bills).
-Assisting with scheduling appointments.
-Accompany individual under your care to appointments and other daily activities throughout the day.
-Assisting and teaching transportation skills such as finding and taking public transportation.
-Teaching community access to the individual served for educational and vocational opportunities
-Provide companionship, fellowship, and protection to individuals under your care.
-Communicating with the individual being served by talking, listening, and providing encouragement and support to foster a positive relationship.

Devereux California has been a not-for-profit provider of services since 1945. Devereux provides programs for adult individuals and families with developmental disabilities and/or emotional disturbances. The Devereux Santa Barbara programs serve individuals ages 18-85 with multiple diagnoses. Diagnoses typically include autistic spectrum disorders, emotional and/or behavioral disorders, mental disorders, dementia and other cognitive disorders, intellectual and developmental disabilities, and medical conditions. The intent of our programs is to build quality of life for individuals and to promote the greatest degree of independence possible for each individual. The focus is on reducing challenging behavior and establishing skills in order for the person to live in the least restrictive environment possible and to participate fully in their community.
To qualify, we require:
-A minimum of a High School Diploma or GED, BA in Psychology preferred.
-Experience in the field is preferred.
-Valid California Driver's License and a good driving record are a must.
The IDEAL candidate will:
Be empathetic, a team player, have excellent written and verbal communication skills, energetic, creative, understand the theories of behavior management and positive reinforcement, and represent yourself as a positive role model.
Additionally, you must be able to complete 40 hours of new hire orientation training, and have a strong passion for working with and helping adults with special needs.
